The City of Aiea is located near Pearl Harbor in Honolulu county, Hawaii. When referring to Aiea real estate, most people are talking about the area from the northern shore of East Loch of Pearl Harbor to Aiea Bay, including the area rising to the Ko'olau Mountains. Kamehameha Highway divides most of Aiea from the Pearl Harbor shore and interstate freeway H-1 cuts Aiea's commercial district into two distinct areas. These east-west routes connect Aiea to Pearl City immediately adjacent to the west and the Halawa to the east. Residential Aiea Heights extends up the ridgeline above the town.
Aiea History
Originally an ahupua'a (Hawaiian land division), the Honolulu Plantation Co. opened a plantation for sugar cane production at the end of the 19th century in Aiea real estate. Much of the Aiea shoreline is actually located on Pearl Harbor. The USS Vestal was run ashore in Aiea Bay to avoid sinking. The plantation was shut down after WWII and was then turned into a sugar refinery. The previous sugar cane fields became residential developments. In 1996, the refinery was closed by C&H Sugar, thus ending Aiea's sugar history. In 1998, the owners tore down the old refinery even amongst the protestations of local residents.
Aiea Schools
The Hawaii Department of Education oversees all public education of students living in Aiea real estate. The Aiea school system includes five elementary schools, one intermediate school and one high school in the public school system and seven private schools.
Things to See & Do in Aiea
Enjoy all the beauty that Aiea real estate offers through its gorgeous state parks: Aiea Bay State Recreation Area and Kea'iwa Heiau State Recreation Area, both of which offer astounding views of Pearl Harbor. Aiea Bay offers picnic areas, restrooms, a bike path that traverses the entire park and even a wonderful view of the Arizona Memorial. Kea'iwa Heiau is actually the ruins of a Heiau (temple) at the summit of Aiea Heights with camping facilities and hiking trails.
Aiea is a shopper's mecca, thanks to Pearlridge, the second largest place to shop in the entire state. Pearlridge is divided into Uptown Pearlridge and Downtown Pearlridge, houses Hawaii's only monorail and offers the only hospital available on mall property.
Aloha Stadium is also located in Aiea real estate. Every December, it host the Hawaii Bowl and, every February, it host the National Football League's Pro Bowl.
